En ce temps-là, les Apôtres dirent au Seigneur : « Augmente en nous la foi ! »
Le Seigneur répondit : « Si vous aviez de la foi, gros comme une graine de moutarde, vous auriez dit à l’arbre que voici : “Déracine-toi et va te planter dans la mer”, et il vous aurait obéi. »
« Lequel d’entre vous, quand son serviteur aura labouré ou gardé les bêtes, lui dira à son retour des champs : “Viens vite prendre place à table” ?
Ne lui dira-t-il pas plutôt : “Prépare-moi à dîner, mets-toi en tenue pour me servir, le temps que je mange et boive. Ensuite tu mangeras et boiras à ton tour” ?
Va-t-il être reconnaissant envers ce serviteur d’avoir exécuté ses ordres ?
De même vous aussi, quand vous aurez exécuté tout ce qui vous a été ordonné, dites : “Nous sommes de simples serviteurs : nous n’avons fait que notre devoir.” »

RÉFLÉXION

« Augmente en nous la foi ! »

Si nos frères les premiers disciples de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, lui ont publiquement demandé d’augmenter leur foi, c’est bien parce qu’ils se sont rendus compte qu’elle était faible et les rendait vulnérables; et aussi parce qu’ils ont reconnu que seul Jésus avait ce pouvoir.

Nous qui marchons aujourd’hui dans les pas de ces mêmes disciples, qui avons hérité de leur foi admirable, nous leur sommes reconnaissants, quand bien même, comme eux et notre Seigneur avant eux, nous devons prendre part aux “souffrances liées à l’annonce de l’Évangile“. (2 Timothée 1:8) Or ce n’est pas facile tous les jours. Souvenons-nous des Paroles de notre Seigneur : “N’allez pas croire que je sois venu apporter la paix sur la terre ; je ne suis pas venu apporter la paix, mais le glaive.” (Matthieu 10, 34). “Vous serez détestés de tous.” (Matthieu 10:22)

Oui, Jésus nous avait prévenus : nous ne serons pas bien vu de tous les hommes, voire même mal accueillis ou pas accueillis du tout, et nous aurons à fuir. Là où c’est plus difficile à gérer c’est quand nous sommes rejetés par certains membres de notre propre famille ! “Mais“, Jésus avait-Il ajouté, “celui qui aura persévéré jusqu’à la fin, celui-là sera sauvé.”

Si notre foi est forte et débordante, nous tiendrons le coup biens chères sœurs et chers frères, et avec nous, d’autres âmes ferventes que notre Seigneur aura attirées et qui voudront se joindre à nous pour la Gloire de Dieu et le salut des Hommes. Alors tous ensemble, l’union faisant notre force, nous aurons contribué à ce que Le Règne de Dieu vienne sur la Terre et laisserons un bel héritage à ceux qui viendront après.

Voilà en quoi consiste notre part ! Et comme nous demande notre Maître Seigneur et Sauveur : « quand vous aurez exécuté tout ce qui vous a été ordonné, dites : “Nous sommes de simples serviteurs : nous n’avons fait que notre devoir.” »

Ainsi sommes-nous appelés à être biens chères sœurs et frères : de simples serviteurs dans le monde et du monde, au service d’un meilleur monde, c’est à dire d’un monde plus saint, plus dévoué à se servir les uns les autres avec un amour simple et une foi débordante en Dieu qui est Amour, et qui Lui-même débordera de joie à féliciter et point blâmer! (Éphésiens 5:27)

Que notre premier souci soit de veiller à ce que notre foi grandisse et se fortifie à travers plus d’intimité avec la Sainte Trinité! Car avec une telle foi, grandiront aussi  l’humilité et la simplicité du coeur, la patience et la persévérance dans les épreuves, l’obéissance et la fidélité dans le service envers les plus pauvres et les plus démunis du Royaume de notre Bon Dieu sur Terre; et la montagne d’obstacles que l’Ennemi met devant nous, sera déplacée vite fait pour faire la place aux Grâces.

• N’est-ce pas Ô Saint-Esprit ? Que dis-Tu ? Quel conseil donneras-Tu aux disciples des derniers temps ?

Et Le Saint-Esprit répondit :

Le même que j’ai donné a ceux des temps premiers petit cœur de Jésus-Christ : « Ainsi votre conduite sera digne du Seigneur…, par tout le bien que vous ferez, vous porterez du fruit et vous progresserez dans la vraie connaissance de Dieu. Vous serez fortifiés en tout par la puissance de sa gloire, qui vous donnera toute persévérance et patience. Dans la joie, vous rendrez grâce à Dieu le Père, qui vous a rendus capables d’avoir part à l’héritage des saints, dans la lumière. »

(Colossiens 1, 10-12)

Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 17:5-10

At that time, the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
The Lord replied, “If you had faith as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or tending sheep. When he comes in from the field, will he say to him, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’?
Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, dress yourself and serve me while I eat and drink; and afterward, you may eat and drink’?
Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded?
So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’”

REFLECTION
“Increase our faith!”

If the first disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ openly asked Him to increase their faith, it was because they had realized that their faith was weak and made them vulnerable; and also because they recognized that only Jesus had this power.

Today, we who walk in the footsteps of these same disciples, who have inherited their admirable faith, are grateful to them—even though, like them and our Lord before them, we must share in the “sufferings linked to the proclamation of the Gospel” (2 Timothy 1:8). And this is not easy every day. Let us remember the words of our Lord: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword” (Matthew 10:34). “You will be hated by all” (Matthew 10:22).

Yes, Jesus warned us: we will not be well regarded by everyone, and we may even be rejected or not accepted at all, and we will have to flee. The hardest part is when we are rejected by some members of our own family! “But”added Jesus, “ the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

If our faith is strong and overflowing, we will persevere, dear brothers and sisters, and with us, other fervent souls whom our Lord will have attracted and who will want to join us for the Glory of God and the salvation of Humanity. Together, united in strength, we will contribute to the coming of God’s Kingdom on earth, leaving a beautiful legacy for those who come after us.

This is our part! And as our Master, Lord, and Savior asks us: “When you have done all that is commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Thus, dear brothers and sisters, we are called to be simple servants in the world and for the world, serving a better world—more holy, more dedicated to serving one another with simple love and overflowing faith in God, who is Love, and from whom joy will overflow as we praise and not blame! (Ephesians 5:27)

Let our first concern be to ensure that our faith grows and is strengthened through greater intimacy with the Holy Trinity! For with such faith, humility and simplicity of heart will also grow, along with patience and perseverance in trials, obedience and fidelity in service to the poorest and most destitute of the Kingdom of our Good God on Earth; and the mountain of obstacles that the Enemy puts in front of us will be moved quickly, leaving space for God’s Grace !

• Isn’t that right, Holy Spirit? What do You say? What advice will You give to the disciples of the last days?

And the Holy Spirit replied:

The same I gave to those of the earliest times, little heart of Jesus Christ: “Thus, your conduct will be worthy of the Lord… in all that you do, you will bear fruit and grow in the true knowledge of God. You will be strengthened in everything by the power of His glory, which will give you endurance and patience. Rejoicing, give thanks to God the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints, in the light.”

(Colossians 1:10-12)
