En ce temps-là, Jésus disait aux foules : « Quand vous voyez un nuage monter au couchant, vous dites aussitôt qu’il va pleuvoir, et c’est ce qui arrive. Et quand vous voyez souffler le vent du sud, vous dites qu’il fera une chaleur torride, et cela arrive. Hypocrites ! Vous savez interpréter l’aspect de la terre et du ciel ; mais ce moment-ci, pourquoi ne savez-vous pas l’interpréter ?
Et pourquoi aussi ne jugez-vous pas par vous-mêmes ce qui est juste ? Ainsi, quand tu vas avec ton adversaire devant le magistrat, pendant que tu es en chemin mets tout en œuvre pour t’arranger avec lui, afin d’éviter qu’il ne te traîne devant le juge, que le juge ne te livre à l’huissier, et que l’huissier ne te jette en prison. Je te le dis : tu n’en sortiras pas avant d’avoir payé jusqu’au dernier centime. »

RÉFLEXION

“Hypocrites ! Vous savez interpréter l’aspect de la terre et du ciel … pourquoi aussi ne jugez-vous pas par vous-mêmes ce qui est juste ?”

Notre Seigneur a raison : nous sommes hypocrites ! Nous prétendons pouvoir interpréter beaucoup de choses par le moyen de la science, mais quand il s’agit d’interpréter nos pensées, nos désirs, et nos actions, nous nous déclarons incapables, et nous nous trouvons toutes sortes d’excuses ou rejettons nos fautes sur autrui  !

Saint Paul réfléchissant pour lui-même dit ceci : « ce qui est à ma portée, c’est de vouloir le bien, mais pas de l’accomplir. Malheureux homme que je suis ! Ainsi, moi, par ma raison, je suis au service de la loi de Dieu, et, par ma nature charnelle, au service de la loi du péché. » (Romains 7,18-25) Il admet que, bien qu’il veuille faire le bien, il reconnaît sa faiblesse face à cette volonté. Ne devons-nous pas servir uniquement la loi de Dieu, plutôt que notre nature pécheresse qui nous mène au péché et à la mort ? Dieu est la vie ; l’ennemi est la mort.

Ne devrions-nous pas servir uniquement la loi Dieu, et point celle de notre nature charnelle qui nous conduit au péché et à la mort? Dieu est la Vie, l’Ennemi est la mort. Quand il s’agit de faire le choix, y’a pas photos! Détournons-nous donc des tentations, prenons le temps de réfléchir et sachons discerner le bien du mal ! Soyons responsables de l’intelligence que Dieu a mis en nous et qui nous permet de le faire, par Le Saint-Esprit qui nous a été accordé.

Et Le Saint-Esprit répondit:

«Je suis l’Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t’ai fait sortir d’Égypte, de la maison d’esclavage. Tu n’auras pas d’autres dieux devant moi.» (Exode 20:2-3)« Dieu est fidèle, et il ne permettra pas que vous soyez tentés au-delà de vos forces; mais avec la tentation il préparera aussi le moyen d’en sortir, afin que vous puissiez la supporter. » (1 Corinthiens 10:13)

• Prions notre Dieu : 

  Seigneur, apprends-moi à bien saisir, à bien juger : je me fie à tes volontés. Toi, tu es bon, tu fais du bien : apprends-moi tes commandements. Que j’aie pour consolation ton amour selon tes promesses à ton serviteur ! Que vienne à moi ta tendresse, et je vivrai : ta loi fait mon plaisir. Jamais je n’oublierai tes préceptes : par eux tu me fais vivre. Je suis à toi : sauve-moi, car je cherche tes préceptes.

  Psaume 119(118)

Que Le Seigneur nous bénisse et nous garde. Qu’Il tourne vers nous Son visage et nous accorde Sa Paix.

Here is the English version of the reflection based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 12:54-59:

At that time, Jesus said to the crowds: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say that it will rain, and it does. And when you see the wind blowing from the south, you say that it will be a scorching heat, and it happens. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; but why do you not know how to interpret this present time?

And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? As you go with your adversary before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, so that he may not drag you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”

REFLECTION

“Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky… why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?”

Our Lord is right: we are hypocrites! We pretend to be able to interpret many things through science, but when it comes to interpreting our thoughts, desires, and actions, we declare ourselves incapable, and we find all kinds of excuses or blame others for our faults.

Saint Paul reflects for himself and says: “For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.” (Romans 7:18-20)

Should we not serve only God’s law, and not that of our sinful nature which leads us to sin and death? God is Life; the enemy is death. When it’s time to choose, there’s no doubt! Let us turn away from temptations, take time to reflect, and learn to discern good from evil! Let us be responsible for the intelligence God has given us, which enables us to do so through the Holy Spirit who has been granted to us.

• Is it not so, O Holy Spirit?

And the Holy Spirit replied:

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:2-3)”God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength; but with the temptation, He will also provide the way out, so that you may be able to endure it. “(1 Corinthians 10:13)

Let us pray to our God:

Lord, teach me to understand well, to judge rightly: I trust in Your will. You are good, You do good: teach me Your commandments. Let Your love be my comfort according to Your promises to Your servant! May Your tenderness come to me, and I shall live: Your law is my delight. I will never forget Your precepts: by them, You give me life. I am Yours: save me, for I seek Your precepts.
