Évangile de Jésus-Christ selon saint Luc 13,10-17.

En ce temps-là, Jésus était en train d’enseigner dans une synagogue, le jour du sabbat. Voici qu’il y avait là une femme, possédée par un esprit qui la rendait infirme depuis dix-huit ans ; elle était toute courbée et absolument incapable de se redresser. Quand Jésus la vit, il l’interpella et lui dit : « Femme, te voici délivrée de ton infirmité. » Et il lui imposa les mains. À l’instant même elle redevint droite et rendait gloire à Dieu. Alors le chef de la synagogue, indigné de voir Jésus faire une guérison le jour du sabbat, prit la parole et dit à la foule : « Il y a six jours pour travailler ; venez donc vous faire guérir ces jours-là, et non pas le jour du sabbat. » Le Seigneur lui répliqua : « Hypocrites ! Chacun de vous, le jour du sabbat, ne détache-t-il pas de la mangeoire son bœuf ou son âne pour le mener boire ? Alors cette femme, une fille d’Abraham, que Satan avait liée voici dix-huit ans, ne fallait-il pas la délivrer de ce lien le jour du sabbat ? » À ces paroles de Jésus, tous ses adversaires furent remplis de honte, et toute la foule était dans la joie à cause de toutes les actions éclatantes qu’il faisait.

RÉFLEXION

« Tous ceux qui se laissent conduire par l’Esprit de Dieu, ceux-là sont fils de Dieu. Vous n’avez pas reçu un esprit qui fait de vous des esclaves et vous ramène à la peur ; mais vous avez reçu un Esprit qui fait de vous des fils. Puisque nous sommes ses enfants, nous sommes aussi ses héritiers : héritiers de Dieu, héritiers avec le Christ, si du moins nous souffrons avec lui pour être avec lui dans la gloire. » (Romains 8,12-17.)

Après avoir compris cette déclaration du Saint-Esprit à travers  Paul, ~ Apôtre de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ ~  nous comprenons mieux d’où notre Seigneur Lui-même puisait force, courage et audace, pour imposer La Miséricorde de Dieu au milieu d’un peuple attaché à des lois, interdits, permis, et traditions. Dans l’Évangile du Jour c’est le chef de la synagogue que Jésus exaspère en faisant une guérison le jour du sabbat ~ ce qui, nous l’avons compris, était contre la loi  ! 

« Si saviez ce que signifie: Je prends plaisir à la miséricorde, et non aux sacrifices, vous n’auriez pas condamné des innocents.  Car le Fils de l’homme est maître du sabbat. » Voilà ce que notre Seigneur dit dans un autre Évangile rapporté par Son disciple Matthieu (12:7). Voilà ce que notre Seigneur Jésus faisait quand Il guérissait le jour du sabbat,  – car Il était maitre du sabbat : MISÉRICORDE MISÉRICORDE MISÉRICORDE ! 

« Vous n’avez pas reçu un esprit qui fait de vous des esclaves et vous ramène à la peur ; mais vous avez reçu un Esprit qui fait de vous des fils. »

Et vous que faites-vous fils et filles de Dieu ? dit L’Esprit-Saint au moment où j’écris cette Réfléxion. Et Il ajoute : de qui êtes-vous esclaves ? de l’Homme ou de Dieu ? Puis, Il s’est tourné vers moi et s’est adressé directement à moi en disant : Et toi petit coeur, que dis-tu ?

C’était comme si Le Saint-Esprit renversait les rôles, puisque d’habitude c’est moi qui Lui pose la question : Que dis-Tu Ô Saint-Esprit? Alors au Saint-Esprit j’ai ouvert mon coeur que je sais uni au Coeur sacré de Jésus-Christ, et je Lui ai dis :

• Je suis l’esclave et fille de Dieu car je suis épouse de Son Fils et je travaille pour L’Esprit de Vérité qu’Il m’a donné. Ma vie appartient à cette Trinité que je viens de nommer. En Elle, je n’ai et ne reconnais qu’un Dieu – Le Dieu vivant qui est mon Père  ~ Celui qui est aux Cieux. Je n’ai et ne reconnais qu’un Époux ~ Son Fils bien-aimé qui S’est incarné pour me sauver. Je n’ai d’autre Maître et Directeur que Lui, et je ne me nourris que de Ses Paroles. Je n’enseigne et ne rend témoignage que de Ses Enseignements et Grâces reçues de Sa Miséricorde, et que me rappellent gentiment au moment où il le faut, L’Esprit de Vérité. Si j’avais une demande à faire à Dieu ce matin au Nom de La Vérité, ce serait que jamais je ne sois séparée de La Sainte Trinité qui me dit La Vérité:  « Ne jugez pas, pour ne pas être jugés ; de la manière dont vous jugez, vous serez jugés. » (Jésus-Christ, Mt 7:1-2) Que Dieu me donne plus d’opportunités de proclamer Ses Vérités au monde entier…

Et L’Esprit de Vérité répondit:

Petit coeur, va en paix et que le Seigneur t’accorde ce que tu lui as demandé.
(1 Sagesse 1,17)

Here is the English version of the reflection based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 13:10-17:

At that time, Jesus was teaching in a synagogue on the Sabbath. There was a woman there who had been possessed by a spirit that had made her infirm for eighteen years; she was bent over and completely unable to straighten up.  When Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.” And He laid His hands on her. Immediately she stood up straight and glorified God.  The synagogue leader, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, spoke up and said to the crowd, “There are six days for work; come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”  But the Lord answered him, “Hypocrites! Does each of you, on the Sabbath, not untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead it away to water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”  When He said this, all His opponents were humiliated, but the entire crowd rejoiced at all the wonderful things He was doing.

REFLECTION 

“Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. You did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.” (Romans 8:14-17)

Having understood this declaration of the Holy Spirit through Paul, ~ Apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ ~, we understand better where our Lord Himself drew His strength, courage, and audacity from— to bring God’s Mercy into the midst of a people attached to laws and traditions. 

In today’s Gospel, it is the synagogue leader whom Jesus irritates by healing on the Sabbath — which, as we have understood, was against the law! 

“If you knew what it means: I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” This is what our Lord says in another Gospel reported by His disciple Matthew (12:7). 

This is what Jesus was doing when He healed, on others days and on the Sabbath — because He was Master of the Sabbath : MERCY MERCY MERCY !  

“You did not receive a spirit that makes you slaves and brings you back to fear; but you received the Spirit of sonship.”

And you, sons and daughters of God, followers of Christ, what are you doing? I heard the Holy Spirit say as I write this reflection. And He adds: of whom are you slaves? Of man or of God? Then, the Holy Spirit turned to me and addressed me directly and said: And you, little heart, what do you say?

It was as if suddenly the Holy Spirit was changing roles with me, since usually it is I am who ask Him: What do You say, O Holy Spirit?! So, knowing well that my heart is united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, I opened my heart to Spirit of Truth and said :

• I am a slave and daughter of the Father because I am the wife of His Son, and I work for the Spirit of Truth that He gave me. My life belongs to this Trinity that I just named. In The Holy Trinity, I have and recognize only One God : the Living God who is my Father ~ the One who is in Heaven and who came to me through Jésus-Christ intercesssion. I have and recognize only One Spouse ~ Jésus-Christ His Beloved Son who incarnated to save me. I have no other Master and Guide but Him, and I only nourish myself on His Words. I teach and testify only to His Teachings and Graces received from His Mercy, and of which The Spirit of Truth gently reminds me when necessary. If I had a request to make to God this morning in the Name of Truth, it would be that I never be separated from the Holy Trinity Who gives me courage, strength, audacity to say The Truth : « Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged. » (Jesus Christ, Mt 7:1-2) That God gives me more opportunity to proclaim His Words of Truth to the whole wide world… 

And the Spirit of Truth replied:

Little heart, go in peace, and may the Lord grant you what you have asked of Him.
